New magnetic scaffolds for tissue regeneration

A team of researchers of the Institute of Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity of the National Research Council (Cnr-Isof) in Bologna designed an innovative magnetic 3D scaffold made of keratin and MgFe hydrotalcite nanoparticles. The stability and biocompatibility of the reported material together with the possibility in perspective of intercalating bioactive species into the interlayer region of hydrotalcites for a controlled drug release, could open the way for application in the area of regenerative medicine, such as bone regeneration and repair.
