New filters for breathing machines in intensive care

ISOF researchers started the MEDFIL project, funded by Emilia Romagna region. The projects will develop new materials for respiratory machines used in intensive care units (ICU). They accumulate heath and moisture from the patient, to give them back to the patient during inspiration. The filters will be inspired to the natural composition of our respiratory system, will be biodegradable, and obtained from recycling of industrial polymeric scraps.

The technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4, and will be developed till TRL 6.
