ECOMONDO Conference: Materials Innovation for the Ecological Transition

In history, material innovation has continuously shaped human progress. At the present state of art, the development of advanced materials is at the forefront to face one of the most urgent challenges of our era: ecological transition. At ECOMONDO 2025 in Rimini, a high-level conference will explore how cutting-edge research in materials science is driving sustainable solutions for human ecosystem, including clean energy, safe water, and pure air.

Let’s discover the three main contributions:

By enabling the design of materials at an atomic level, nanotechnology is unlocking entirely new capabilities in science and engineering. Vincenzo Palermo, Research Director at CNR Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity will examine how nanocomposites are being applied in key sustainability sectors. From enhancing hydrogen production processes to selectively removing pollutants from drinking water, or advancing medical and biological technologies, these man-enhanced materials are at the heart of a new generation of eco innovations. paving the way for a more sustainable and healthier future.

Through the smart valorization of agricultural by-products, innovative formaldehyde-free bioresins are now being produced on an industrial scale for wood-based panels. Francesco Balducci, co-founder of MANIFAKTURA, mechanical engineer, and specialist in sustainable materials, will showcase the standout example of Evertree, a French company leading the way in green chemistry, which through these steps is impactfully reducing harmful VOC emissions and offering healthier, low-impact materials for furniture, construction, and design.

Imagining a future of greener architecture, we then pass to explore Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), porous materials with incredible potential in environmental applications. Claudio Pettinari, Professor of Chemistry at the University of Camerino, will highlight how MOFs are being engineered to remove pollutants from air and water, capture CO₂, and even fight bacteria and fungi. Their versatility and absorption performance make them promising candidates for tomorrow’s sustainable construction materials.

Moderator is Gabriella de Girolamo, Director of the Osservatorio Allestimenti, main organizer of the event. OSSERVATORIO ALLESTIMENTI is an initiative launched by Prostand company, aiming to be a think tank and observatory focused on trends, innovation, and sustainability in temporary architecture for business spaces.
