Giorgia Conte is a Level III Researcher at CNR, where she leads projects focused on developing innovative technologies to study glial cells and their role in brain processes. Her research investigates the interaction between glial cells and neurons, as well as the molecular mechanisms that regulate communication within the central and peripheral nervous systems. She earned her PhD in Neurobiology in 2021 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Innovative Training Network program. During her doctoral studies, she explored the role of the P2X7 receptor following status epilepticus and during epilepsy, employing in vivo approaches combined with molecular biology, histological, and behavioral analysis techniques. Part of her project was conducted at the Walther Straub Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she deepened her investigation of purinergic receptors. She obtained her International Master’s Degree in Neuroscience from the University of Trieste, where she studied the interactions between asbestos fibers and cell membranes using electrophysiological techniques on Xenopus laevis oocytes. Subsequently, supported by a “Garanzia Giovani” fellowship, she completed an internship at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, where she investigated the role of autoantibodies in psychiatric disorders through molecular biology and in vivo experimental approaches.
