From Research to Real-World Impact
Research at ISOF goes beyond the laboratory. Ideas, expertise and scientific results developed within the Institute often serve as the starting point for new entrepreneurial initiatives, capable of transforming innovation into high-impact products, services and solutions.
Over the years, ISOF researchers have demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial mindset, contributing to the creation of spin-offs active in strategic sectors such as biomaterials, advanced polymers, diagnostics, nutraceuticals and health technologies. These companies stem from solid, long-term scientific research carried out within the Institute and bring original, sustainable and high value-added technologies to the market.
Among the most notable examples, Kerline was established following extensive research on green chemical processes for the extraction of water-soluble keratin from textile and agri-food waste, with applications in biomedicine and advanced cosmetics. Advanced Polymer Materials develops innovative polymeric materials, adhesives, coatings, advanced inks and biodegradable solutions for a more sustainable industry. Lipinutragen has translated membrane lipidomics research into an innovative approach to personalised health and nutraceuticals, ultimately leading to its acquisition by a leading international group in the longevity sector. Mediteknology develops fluorescent molecular probes and advanced tools for diagnostic applications, at the interface of biotechnology, nanotechnology and imaging.
These experiences highlight ISOF’s ability to transform scientific knowledge into tangible value, fostering an ecosystem where research, innovation and entrepreneurship grow together.
