The Christmas Lecture is a long-standing outreach tradition

held annually in December at the National Research Council research area in Bologna. Established in 2011, thisinitiative has become a well-recognized event dedicated to science communication and dialogue between the research community and society.

Over the years, the Christmas Lecture has hosted a wide range of distinguished speakers, including scientists,  institutional representatives, innovators, and science communicators. Eachedition typically features a high-profile guest invited to  address topics at the intersection of science, technology, and society.

The event is designed not only for researchers, but also for citizens, students, and science-lovers to share a space for discussion and knowledge exchange.

A key objective of the Christmas Lecture is to strengthen the relationship between science and society. By opening the doors of research institutions to the public, the initiative promotesawareness of the role of scientific research in addressing major global challenges, including energy transition, climate change, and technological innovation.

More broadly, the Christmas Lecture reflects the long-term commitment of CNR-ISOF to public engagement and education. Through events like this, the institute contributes to building a stronger scientific culture, encouraging curiosity, and inspiring younger generations to approachthe world of research and innovation
