Dr. Nicola Armaroli
Nicola Armaroli (b. 1966) got his MSc (laurea) in chemistry in 1990 and the PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 1994 and was then a research associate at the Center for Photochemical Sciences at Bowling Green State University (USA). He became research scientist at ISOF-CNR in 1997 and senior researcher in 2002.
His scientific activity is concerned with the photochemistry and photophysics of coordination compounds, carbon nanostructures and supramolecular materials, with focus on luminescence and photoinduced energy- and electron-transfer. This work is of interest for basic research as well as for applied technologies such as light energy conversion and new luminescent materials. Nicola Armaroli has published two books and over 130 research papers, review articles and book chapters. He run European projects as CNR principal investigator in the frame of FP5, FP6, FP7, COST programmes, funded by the European Commission and is currently the scientific coordinator of the Marie Curie ITN-FINELUMEN project (FP7-People).
Nicola Armaroli is also is an active consultant and science divulgator on the issues of energy, natural resources and environment. He was awarded the 2001 Grammaticakis-Neumann International Prize in Photochemistry and the Premio Letterario Galileo 2009 for science divulgation. He got married with Claudia in 1993 and they have 3 children: Giovanni, Elena and Irene.
